From the NATE Office
This month the NATE office will begin accepting candidate applications for the Board of Directors election. This year NATE Voting Members will elect five members to the Board of Directors.
The time to consider throwing your hat in the ring is right now.
NATE has been remarkably successful for the past 12 years. Although there have been many accomplishments, there are even greater challenges ahead. To meet those demands head-on, NATE needs to continue its history of electing outstanding leaders.
Having worked with the Board of Directors for the past eight years, I can tell you that every individual brings her or his own perspective to the group. That diversity has been one of NATE’s greatest strengths, for NATE Members in general are a diverse group, from the type of tower work they perform to their views on how an association can best serve them.
Along with their diversity, the Board Members have another attribute in common -- dedication. The Board holds monthly conference calls, exchanges regular emails, and meets face-to-face two times a year. To serve on the Board is a commitment that should not be taken lightly.
Along with the basic responsibilities mentioned above, many Board Members volunteer to sit on standing and ad hoc committees, or become involved in state or federal issues that affect how your company does business every day. This, of course, requires even more time, and, as you know, Board Members receive no pay.
So why would anyone want to be on the Board?
I find myself amazed that individuals who already have more-than-full-time jobs would look for additional work. But as one Board Member reminded me, “this is how I give back to an industry that has been very good to me.”Another Board Member told me that this is their opportunity to make a difference that will affect the industry for the better.
NATE is the unified voice of the tower erection, service and maintenance industry. As such, NATE is involved in shaping the future through the work we accomplish together today, whether that is through the safety resources we develop, the educational sessions we offer, or the results of our activities with state and federal regulatory agencies. Serving on the NATE Board of Directors lends your voice to the decisions NATE will make on all these matters and much more.
I know NATE has many excellent leaders who are just waiting for their chance to step forward. I encourage all eligible members to consider this opportunity and submit your application today. For information on who is eligible to become a candidate for the Board of Directors, please see page 9. If you meet the criteria and are interested, do not wait to apply. You may be the future leader NATE needs.
