From the NATE Office
At least twice each year NATE’s leadership gets together for face-to-face meetings. The first meeting is the Annual Conference & Exposition. The second meeting is the Summer Conference.

This year’s Summer Conference will be held in Watertown, South Dakota for the second consecutive year. As you know, Watertown is home to the NATE office, and last year’s meeting was very successful. The entire NATE Staff is looking forward to playing host to the NATE Board and Committee Members again this year.

Regardless of where the Summer Conference is held, I am eventually left in awe by the dedication of NATE’s members. From the Chair-man of the Board to the newest committee member, NATE’s volunteer leaders continue to give their own time and resources to make a great industry even better.

For most of these NATE members, the job doesn’t end when they leave the Summer Conference. Most of the time there are follow-up conference calls, documents to review and develop, or other meetings to attend on NATE’s behalf. They accept the challenges and move forward, doing what they can in their “spare time” to help NATE.

Of course, none of these individuals have spare time. They just keep making the time to accomplish what is important to them. They have a passion for the industry and for NATE’s mission, and they are going to give whatever they can to help this association succeed.

Looking at this as a paid employee of the Association, I am humbled by what NATE’s volunteers -- who are, of course, NATE’s leaders -- accomplish for us all.

Some of NATE’s leaders have been with us from the very first days of the Association, and some of the more recent leaders already have years of excellent service under their belts. As much as I respect these individuals, I also recognize that new leadership must continue to come forward. Someone else needs to cultivate that passion for NATE’s future success. It is time for the next generation of NATE leaders to step forward.

Individuals interested in running for the NATE Board of Directors must file their applications no later than September 4, 2007. Please take a few minutes and review the candidate information on pages 7-10.

I encourage every eligible member who has strong feelings about both tower safety and having a role in determining what rules you will operate under to consider stepping up to this challenge. NATE has great leaders, but NATE needs more of them every year. I hope you will seriously consider offering your services in this capacity.
