NATE 2002 Summer Conference
The 2002 NATE Summer Conference for the Board of Directors and Committees was held August 8 - 9, 2002, in Chicago, Illinois, at the O’Hare Hilton.
This year’s agenda mirrored the 2001 meeting which was designed to be more accommodating than previous years for those with busy summer schedules. Held earlier in the month of August, the Summer Conference committee meetings were all held on Friday, August 9, while the Board of Directors started their meetings on Thursday, August 8 to accommodate the topics on their agenda and to accomplish their goals.
Don Doty headed up the OSHA Relations Committee meeting, which concentrated on the production of a hoist standard for the tower industry, the NATE/OSHA Partnership Program, and the Gin Pole Standard, which is in its final draft stage.
The Trade Show Committee, chaired by Ken Meador, tackled the task of finalizing details for NATE 2003 including a review of current exhibitors and sponsors, and also brainstormed to make plans for future shows. NATE 2004 is set for February 24 - 27, 2004 in Nashville, Tennessee. The Committee also welcomed new committee members.
Fred Hardee led the Membership Committee in discussing current membership levels, ongoing research regarding additional NATE benefits, the NATE promotional videotape that is in production, and the convenience of the new NATE Membership Benefits brochure. The Committee was also tasked with personally contacting new NATE members to welcome them to the Association and assist them with questions they may have.
The Safety & Education Committee, chaired by Todd Thorin, also discussed many different topics. The revised Safety Program is in its final stages of completion, and the RF Video is moving along and is now in the storyboard stage. The committee is also working on a Hoist Operator Safety Manual. A rough draft is planned to be ready at the annual meeting in February.
A joint session followed the adjournment of the various committee meetings. The Committee Chairmen summarized each of their meetings and accomplishments from the Summer Meeting. Craig Snyder, NATE Chairman, addressed the group and thanked everyone in attendance for their dedication and service to NATE. A box lunch was provided following the joint session.
Thank you to all the NATE members who took time out from their busy schedules to attend the 2002 NATE Summer Conference. It is this continued commitment to NATE that keeps the Association going strong.
