Industry Relations
From its earliest days, NATE has promoted tower climber safety through best practices, standards, education and facilitating training. In 2007, the Association determined that fostering an industry-wide culture of safety required the involvement of all segments of the broadcast and telecommunication tower industry.
The NATE Industry Relations Committee was formed to help educate the entire industry on the role each individual plays in sending tower climbers home safely at the end of the day. A strategic partnership was formed with the public relations firm of GolinHarris, and NATE initiated the “It’s Up To You” campaign reminding everyone in the industry that their decisions affect safety.
This effort led to a growing recognition of NATE’s leadership in safety across the industry, and increased opportunities for NATE to provide information on tower safety through a variety of forums. Setting up media interviews with NATE leaders, securing trade show speaking opportunities, holding an ongoing series of webinars, and expanding outreach to key executives from tower owner and operators are among some of the many efforts being made to elevate NATE’s visibility and credibility within the broadcast and telecommunications industries.
In response to what NATE has learned from these endeavors, the Association developed the NATE Tower Site Hazard Recognition Guide, an online information source designed to education anyone on a tower site to more readily identify potential hazards. This free online resource has been used by individuals from all segments of the industry and promises to be one more method of expanding safety industry wide.
NATE will remain persistent in its industry relations efforts to work directly with key stakeholders with the industry by increasing awareness of NATE, its members, and the values on which the Association was founded. Through this endeavor, NATE continues to further the development of a culture of safety.
