NATE STAR Initiative Now Accepting Applications for Membership

 

Tower industry safety program first of its kind

 

WATERTOWN, S.D. June 2, 2011 – The National Association of Tower Erectors (NATE) Safety, Training, Accountability and Reliability (STAR) Initiative is open for enrollment June 1 through August 1. The NATE STAR Initiative is an exclusive program designed for members that demonstrate a greater commitment to tower safety practices while recognizing industry best practices in safety and professionalism.

“NATE recognizes the investment to become a STAR Initiative participant demonstrates a company’s commitment to excellence in both safety and quality work,” said Jim Coleman, chairman of the NATE board of directors. “NATE’s goal with the STAR Initiative is to enhance a culture of safety within the tower industry and as more NATE members become STAR Initiative members, the more that goal becomes a reality.”

In the program’s inaugural year, NATE inducted 80 NATE member companies into the STAR Initiative. The STAR Initiative mandates that NATE members take safety to the next level and reinforce their commitment to a culture of safety for the tower industry by adhering to industry best practices.

To be accepted as a STAR member, participants must:

  • Complete defined levels of training
  • Implement a formal safety and health program
  • Require the presence of a competent person on every work site at all times
  • Conduct a minimum number of site safety audits each quarter
  • Adhere to defined industry best practices

NATE members can apply for enrollment by completing the STAR Initiative application form, available online at www.natehome.com.The form includes sections such as, job site documentation, safety audits and fall protection equipment. Current members include large general contractors such as, Black & Veatch, as well as tower erection and service companies across the U.S.
